Going Green!
Meccanica
Goes Even Greener – January 2010
BOLOGNA, ITALY – Meccanica Nova, a leading manufacturer of
state of the art CNC Grinding Systems for the automotive,
aerospace and bearing industry, gets even Greener.
Since its inception in 1937 Meccanica Nova’s
philosophy has been to reinvest profits into the company. “We
believe that our philosophy to reinvest profits back into our
company has helped us maintain our benchmark status in the
industry”, said Andrea Catone, Director of Sales & Marketing
for Meccanica Nova SpA. During its history, Meccanica
Nova has always been sensitive to the environment and the
future of generations to come.
Meccanica Nova’s high-production grinders
have been used by many industries to produce high-quality
components to improve technologies and develop new solutions
worldwide. “Our machines are in-use to produce
components for fuel efficient and low emission engines as well
as wind-energy turbines”.
Meccanica Nova’s latest contribution to the
planet was the installation of a self sustaining clean energy
system. “Our factory and headquarters located in
Bologna, Italy were equipped with photovoltaic modules for
producing Clean Energy, and went online December 18, 2008”,
said Catone.
Installation was facilitated by the
building’s construction, the roof is a multiple-shed type with
a 14° angle of inclination which provided an optimized
orientation of the panels to the sun, as well as the
building’s geographical orientation of 30°S/W. “The
Facility’s entire roof has been exploited, the total surface
of 50,980sq.ft. has been covered by 3,425 photovoltaic panels.
The system is capable of developing 648kWp of Maximum peak
output which is estimated to produce 738,720kWh/yr of Clean
Energy” per Catone.
As of January 1, 2010 Meccanica Nova has
already produced more than 75,000 kWh of Clean Energy since
going online in December of 2008, and the system throughout
the photovoltaic modules estimated life cycle will have
contributed to the planet’s health by saving 17,321.85 Tons of
CO2, 38,493.00 Kilograms of NOx and 43,262.18 Barrels of crude
oil.
